Rodin / Bourdelle. Corps À Corps
Let's enjoy visiting and drawing the sculptures of these two masters who lived in Paris and were so close.
Antoine Bourdelle ( Protected content ) admired Auguste Rodin ( Protected content ), twenty years his senior. He worked for fifteen years as a practitioner, responsible for cutting marbles for Rodin. The master perceived in this heir, willingly indocile, a “scout of the future”.
Parallel, often superimposed, their trajectories certainly deserve a major exhibition. Through more than Protected content , including 96 sculptures, 38 drawings, 3 paintings and 26 photographs, the confrontation shows, with unprecedented ambition and scale, the fraternities and reciprocities as well as the divergences and antagonisms of two creators, of two universes plastics, carriers of the major challenges of modernity.
The exhibition benefits from the exceptional support of Musée Rodin, lending 60 works from these collections, as well as loans from numerous international institutions. National Museum of Modern Art/Industrial Creation Center/C. Pompidou, Orsay Museum., Maison Balzac, Petit Palais, Museum of Fine Arts of the City of Paris, Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, Museum of Fine Arts of Rouen, Matisse Museum of Nice, Matisse departmental museum of Cateau-Cambrésis, Ateliers-Musée Chana Orloff, Giacometti Foundation in Paris, Alberto Giacometti-Stiftung Kunsthaus in Zurich and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen also provided their generous support for this exhibition.
